FAQ

What is bridging?
Mode is a layer 2 that relies on Ethereum as the Layer 1 for
security. When we talk about bridging, we refer to moving tokens from one chain to another. If
you have ETH or other tokens on the Ethereum Mainnet and want to use a dApp on Mode, you will
have to bridge tokens.

How do I use the bridge?
1. Connect your wallet to the bridge and select Ethereum as your
network.
2. Right now you can only deposit from Ethereum, but you could use a third party bridge from other networks. Select the token you want to bridge over to Mode (e.g. ETH, USDC, USDT, WBTC…) from the dropdown.
3. Type in the amount you want to send, and remember to leave some to pay for gas on Ethereum.
4. Click on the 'Bridge to Mode' button, and your wallet will take over at this point. If you did not select the right network, you will be asked to switch. You might need to click on the 'Move funds' button again.
After approving the transaction, you can change the network in your wallet to Mode and see the bridged tokens. This could take a few minutes, but usually your wallet will notify you when the transaction is complete. If you’re wondering how to add the Mode network to your wallet, click here.

How do I bridge funds to Ethereum?
1. Go to the bridge and connect your wallet.
2. Click on 'Witdraw' to send tokens from Mode to Ethereum.
3. Select the token you want to bridge to Ethereum from the dropdown. More will be added soon.
4. Type in the amount you want to send, and remember to leave some tokens to pay for gas on Mode. Gas is paid in ETH.
5. Select the Mode Bridge, or click on a third party bridge to proceed with your withdrawal there. If you decide to use the Mode bridge to withdraw, click on 'Review withdrawal'
6. Review the steps in the withdrawal process, confirm you understand the duration of the process, and click on 'Initiate Withdrawal'.
7. Your transaction will be initiated. You can click the 'Transactions' button to check out your pending withdrawal.
8. Your transaction has been initiated; please wait until the 'Prove' button shows. This could take ~1 hour and might require you to refresh the page. To prove, you need to switch to the Ethereum network.
9. The challenge period will take a week to complete. Once this is done, you will be able to click on the 'Claim' button to finish withdrawing from Mode.
IMPORTANT: There is a challenge period of seven days whenever you bridge from any Layer 2 to Ethereum. This is due to the way optimistic rollups work; you can read more about it here.

Why does it take 7 days to withdraw?
This seven day bridge duration is in place as a challenge period security measure built
into the OP Stack. During this time a transaction can be challenged with a fault proof. If you
want a faster withdrawal or use another network, you can use third party bridges as well.
